Background
ESVIM is a society of veterinarians who share a common interest in small animal medicine. ESVIM was originally set up in 1990 with the twin aims of developing a European congress devoted to companion animal medicine and to create a college of approved specialists. Both of these tasks were achieved in the late 1990’s. In 2002 control of the congress was formally transferred to the ECVIM congress foundation and this foundation reports to the ECVIM. ESVIM is now a society that is affiliated to the congress foundation along with a family of related societies (ESVE, ESFM, ESVC etc.)
